The city of Groningen

Groningen, lively university town, has the lowest average age of the Netherlands. His charm earned him the past to receive the title of best city centre in the Netherlands.

Bed and Breakfast Groningen Holland is located in the Sint Lucasstraat, a quiet street, close to the historical and commercial city of Groningen. From our loft you can quickly leave town to visit the countryside.

At a few minutes walking distance is a large supermarket with quality food products, including organic products.

Vismarkt

If you use the bikes that are included in the rent, it only takes 5 minutes from Bed and Breakfast Groningen Holland to reach the historic and lively city centre, and it will take a 10 minutes walk. A food market with vegetables, fruit and fish is organised on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays in the squares Vismarkt and Grote Markt.

Folkingestraat

The small busy streets with quaint shops make the charm of the city of Groningen with many beautiful historical buildings and many cultural activities. And the nightlife, of this university town is one of the busiest in the Netherlands.

Groninger Museum

Cinemas, concert halls and a beautiful theatre : there is a large cultural offer. Riverboats offer visits on the historic canals. Groningen has one of the most unique museums in the Netherlands: the “Groninger Museum”, with a stunning architecture, a common realisation of the architects Alessandro Mendini, Philippe Starck and Coop Himmelbau. You can also visit the Maritime Museum, the Museum of Graphic Arts in the Museum of Comics.

Festivals

Many festivals and events are organized in Groningen: Perhaps you can combine your stay with Noorderzon Performing Arts Festival. This major international art event takes place in August and annually attracts over 125,000 visitors. http://www.noorderzon.nl/

The Noorderlicht Photography Festival is considered one of the five most important photography events  in the world. Held annually in September in Groningen and Leeuwarden. http://www.noorderlicht.com

Martinitoren

Groningen has many churches whose church Martinikerk with its beautiful tower 100 feet high. The Martinitoren eve since the 17th century the city and you can climb to the top to enjoy a beautiful view of the city.

Rondvaarten

There are many cafes and restaurants in Groningen, from classic Dutch cafes (brown cafes) to classy establishments. One of the most original cafes of Groningen is the pub “Minnaar in the Rozenstraat” (“The lover of the Rose Street”) owned by our daughter.
